Academic Summer Camps – your gateway to A Level Preparation / IB readiness
A Level Preparation and IB readiness is at the heart of all we do at Academic Summer. From our Adventurers (7-12) to our Explorers (12-14) and Engagers (15-17) this is our end goal. We aim to provide the very best in summer camps to ensure our students are confident to step up to the next level in their chosen educational programme.
We also offer a taste of British education that will help any student settle in to boarding school in the UK or help them spend their summer productively revising what they have learnt to date and learning about new things. Or perhaps they may wish to try out a particular field, for example medicine? Our Career pathway camps can be hugely helpful in making the right decision.
A Level Preparation Summer Camps
Firstly, students need to decide whether they are going to do A Levels, (soon to become the Advanced British Standard) or whether they will choose the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme? Helpful tips on making the right decision can be found in our online magazine. See: A Levels vs IB: which qualification is right for you.
Our CEO Helen Lami recently explained the difference between A Levels and the IBDP and how the ABS change could affect students. Having spent 10 years working in international marketing for a leading boarding school and the past 16 years at the helm of Academic Summer she understands what international students are looking for. Whatever course a student decides upon, you can rest assured that we have a Summer Camp tailor-made to suit each individual. We currently run camps in five locations. Four of these are in the UK (London Westminster, London City, Bristol or Taunton) and one is in Canada (New Brunswick).
Students can choose how many weeks they wish to stay and which specific streams or subjects they wish to focus on. Many students are with us for two weeks while some stay the full eight weeks across different locations.
Students have the choice of being in Central London where they can see many of the world-famous landmarks, or being out in the English country where they can enjoy horse riding and other outdoor adventures. Different accomodation options are available.
Consider the follwing A Level Preparation and IB readiness camps we offer in the UK:
- London Westminster at DLD College;
- London City at David Game College;
- Bristol at Sidcot Independent Boarding School; and
- Taunton at Queen’s College.~
We help students attain IB readiness
Students can choose from over 20 subjects from the Arts to Biology, Economics, Chemistry, Design & Technology, English, History & Politics, Mathematics, Media Studies, Physics, Psychology etc. Prepare for A Levels or IB using Content and Language Learning (CLIL)
They will receive 40 hours of academic study per week with a focus on both theory and practical, providing helpful revision for A Levels and the IB Diploma. They will also enjoy trips and activities to get the most out of their experience in the UK / Canada in order to reach their personal best.
“Academic Summer is unique as we offer very different programmes in comparison to an everyday language school,” our CEO Helen Lami explains. “Because we not only offer tuition in English but students can learn the language while focusing on diverse subjects. Our CLIL approach is a really exciting way of becoming proficient in English as you discover more about your interests and favourite topics while developing your language skills.” (See: Discover the power of Content and Language Integrated Learning with Academic Summer)
“Another thing that really makes Academic Summer stand out is that we have such a variety of locations. You can choose to study in the centre of London or out in the countryside where you get to discover more. You could be living at the foot of Westminster Bridge opposite Big Ben or in a Harry Potter type setting surrounded by fields. Either way you are going to get the A Level Preparation or IB readiness you need.
A student perspective from Hadia, from Afghanistan
Last summer, Hadia spent five weeks with us, and from the moment she arrived, she became a cherished member of our camp family in Taunton. Her presence brought warmth, enthusiasm, and a rich cultural perspective to our community. We admire her dedication to learning and her vibrant spirit inspired everyone around her.
A parent's perspective from Julia Vindogradava
