Academic Summer raises over £2000 for Theirworld charity with close on 4 million steps
Academic Summer has successfully raised over £2000 for the Theirworld charity while achieving an incredible 3,975,016 steps as a team during the month of June. This remarkable effort was part of the 2024 Theirworld, Your Walk fundraiser. The charity aims to empower students in war-torn Ukraine which is directly in keeping with Academic Summer’s passion to help educate young people and prepare them for a bright future.
A big thank you goes out to everyone who supported the sponsored walk. Your encouragement and donations have made a significant impact! Among the 16 staff members who competed, Ellie achieved first place with a staggering 423,376 steps, closely followed by Caroline Marshall with 400,000 steps. Caroline also raised the most money coming in at £670 while CEO, Helen Lami raised £550 in donations via Just Giving.
Some supporters shared their thoughts on the Academic Summer Just Giving Page which is still active, including Diann who congratulated Caroline, saying, “Good for you, Caroline! A great cause!” While Jeanine wrote on Helen’s page, “Love what you are doing to raise funds for education in Ukraine and that you included your adorable cockapoos in the sponsored walk.”
Helen Lami commented on the team’s achievement: “Helping people and charities is very important to us at Academic Summer. We were pleased to get behind Theirworld charity and this exciting initiative. The charity was started by Gordon Brown, a former UK Prime Minister and his wife Sarah who believe everyone has a right to education. It was a privilege for us to support their vision for young people, particularly in war torn areas to be able to continue with their schooling.
“Together we achieved nearly 4,000,000 steps in what turned out to be a big competition between us every day for the month of June. The team was walking anywhere and everywhere including on the last day when Caroline and I walked around the airport after welcoming new international students, just to get another 10,000 steps in before the deadline!”
Helen added, “Theirworld, Your Walk was a massive success for us. By collaborating with Theirworld charity, we combined fitness, teamwork and social corporate responsibility into one amazing mission. We’ve walked up and down the train, used steps instead of escalators and went out rain or shine. Not only did this bring us together as a team but also enabled us to contribute to a cause that will make a real difference in children’s lives. Let’s keep moving and making strides for those who need it most.”
Congratulations to the 16 members of the Academic Summer team participated in this annual sponsored walk. By raising over £2000, the team has provided 10 laptops for Ukrainian learners displaced through the war which will make a huge difference in their lives.
Once again, thank you to everyone who supported this project and helped make it a success. Together, we have taken steps towards a brighter future for children in need.
