Sponsor our team in the Theirworld, Your Walk fundraiser and empower Ukrainian students
16 Academic Summer team members are participating in the 2024 Theirworld, Your Walk fundraiser in aid of empowering students in war-torn Ukraine. Could you support us?
Our CEO, Helen Lami recently received a personal update from Sarah Brown, Chair of Theirworld which we would like to share publicly. It confirms that every penny we are raising will make a difference in the lives of Ukrainian children.
Helen is set to attend a reception in London in June hosted by Sarah Brown and Patricia Scotland who is the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth. The event will mark Theirworld’s contribution to global education and honour the work of its Global Youth Ambassadors around the Commonwealth.
Sarah writes: “I travelled to Kyiv to meet President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and discuss how Theirworld could expand our support for children whose education has been disrupted by the conflict. We have already delivered 70,000 laptops to Ukrainian children and helped young refugees living abroad keep in touch with their language, learning and culture.
“President Zelenskyy then invited us to work with his government to focus on accelerated learning programmes for science and mathematics, and support for early childhood education. As part of that, we are supporting an amazing Museum of Mathematics in Kyiv, which will deliver workshops, tutoring and teacher training to help students across the country.
“We are also part of the Ukrainian government’s Device Coalition, which is working hard to deliver laptops to the most vulnerable children living on or near the frontlines. That’s where you come in. Every £200 raised through TheirWorld, Your Walk means we will be able to provide a laptop to a Ukrainian child to help them keep learning!”

“My colleagues and I at Academic Camp are raising money for Theirworld throughout the month of June,” says Danielle Kilsby-Ogden who is our Operations Manager. “Theirworld's mission is to help every single child have the best start in life. They work globally to ensure children have a safe learning environment and help to give them the skills that they need for the future.
“Theirworld has delivered 70,000 laptops to Ukrainian refugees and we're hoping to deliver even more collectively. During June, all of us at Academic Camp are walking 2,000,000 steps and hoping to raise at least £2000. Please consider helping us!”
Danielle also points out reasons others may want to join in the fun. “Supporting Theirworld, Your Walk is reason enough for us to get moving, but also consider that walking helps with you reduced stress levels; is great for your cardiovascular fitness; increases energy levels; can help with depression; and can increase connection if you walk with a companion!
“For all these reasons I'm going to be walking rain or shine this month, so why don't you see how many steps you can get in? And, sponsor us and be part of making a huge difference to students in Ukraine.”
